Studio Policy

Welcome to the Blair Boone-Migura Voice Studio. These policies are designed to create a consistent, professional, and productive learning environment for each student. By enrolling in lessons, students agree to the following studio policies.

Adult Students Only

The Blair Boone-Migura Voice Studio works with adult students only. Students must be 18 years of age or older to enroll.

Lesson Format

Most lessons are held remotely. Some students may study in person, and others may follow a hybrid format with a combination of remote and in-person lessons. The lesson format will be determined in consultation with each student and may depend on location, scheduling, repertoire needs, travel, health considerations, and studio availability. Remote, in-person, and hybrid lessons are all considered regular lesson formats. A remote lesson is not considered a lesser substitute for an in-person lesson.

Music & Materials

The voice is the student’s primary instrument. Students are expected to maintain healthy practice habits and to come to lessons prepared with assigned repertoire, translations, texts, notes, and any other materials requested. Students should have regular access to a piano, keyboard, pitch app, accompaniment tracks, or another reliable pitch source for practice at home. Guidance in repertoire selection, music editions, practice tools, and related materials is included as part of instruction. Each student is responsible for purchasing required music, scores, books, translations, or other materials needed for lessons. Students are expected to obtain newly assigned materials within two weeks of assignment.Students should have the following available for each lesson: Assigned music and scores, a pencil, a notebook or practice journal, water, any translations, IPA, or text work assigned, a recording device or phone, when appropriateAccompaniment tracks, if assigned or neededStudents are responsible for using legal copies of music whenever possible.

Remote Lesson Requirements

For remote lessons, students are responsible for having: A stable internet connectionA quiet and appropriate space for singing. A device with working audio and videoAccess to assigned music. A way to play accompaniment tracks or reference pitches when needed. Because online audio can vary, students may occasionally be asked to adjust device placement, use a second device, send recordings, or work in a slightly modified format to support the best possible lesson experience.

In-Person and Hybrid Lessons

In-person lessons may be arranged when mutually convenient and appropriate. Hybrid students may alternate between remote and in-person lessons depending on schedule, location, travel, health, repertoire needs, or other practical considerations.If an in-person lesson needs to move online because of illness, weather, travel, building access, transportation issues, or other circumstances, the lesson may be held remotely at the scheduled time.When a remote lesson is offered in place of an in-person lesson, an additional makeup lesson will not be provided.

Tuition and Schedule

Tuition reserves the student’s regular lesson time and place in the studio. Tuition may not directly correspond to the exact number of lessons attended if the student misses scheduled lesson times. Tuition is due on the 1st of each month unless another arrangement has been made in advance. At this time, payment may be made by: Zelle, Venmo BusinessPayment information will be provided directly to enrolled students. All payments are non-refundable. The studio operates on an annual teaching calendar of approximately 44 teaching weeks per calendar year. Weeks when lessons are not held due to holidays, professional commitments, travel, personal performance opportunities, illness, or other studio closures will be communicated in advance whenever possible. During studio closure, unused lessons can be reschedule at a mutually convenient time.

Enrollment End Date

To end enrollment for the coming month, notice must be received in writing by email no later than the 15th of the current month.For example, to discontinue lessons beginning in April, written notice must be received by March 15.Tuition already paid is non-refundable.

Cancellation Policy

A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule a lesson.When notice of a missed lesson is provided at least 24 hours in advance, the studio may offer up to two makeup lessons per term, subject to availability. The studio terms are: Fall Term: August–December, Spring Term: January–May, Summer Term: By arrangement: Makeup lessons must be used within 30 days of the missed lesson. Makeup lessons are subject to studio availability and are not guaranteed. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice are considered late cancellations and are charged in full. Missed lessons without notice are charged in full. Tuition is based on the number of lessons the studio schedules and the student’s reserved place in the studio. Tuition will not be reduced or altered due to student absences, planned vacations, school conflicts, travel, or other outside commitments. Planned absences communicated in advance may receive a makeup lesson credit when possible, subject to the limits stated above.

Illness and Vocal Health

Students should not attend an in-person lesson if they are experiencing fever, contagious illness, significant throat discomfort, active respiratory symptoms, or vocal fatigue that would make singing unhealthy. If a student is well enough to participate but not well enough to sing, the lesson may be used for non-singing work, including: Repertoire study, Text and translation, Diction, Interpretation, Score study, Audition preparation, Practice planning, Listening assignments, Illness-related cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be handled at the teacher’s discretion.

Lateness

Students are expected to arrive on time, whether the lesson is remote or in person. If a student arrives late or logs in late, the lesson will still end at the originally scheduled time and will be charged at the full lesson rate.If the teacher is running late, the full lesson time will be honored or adjusted accordingly.

Practice Expectations

Regular practice is essential to vocal progress. Students are expected to follow assigned practice guidelines and to approach practice with consistency, curiosity, and care. Because the voice is a physical instrument, practice should be mindful and healthy. Students should avoid excessive repetition, pushing, or singing through pain, fatigue, or illness.

Communication

Email is the preferred method for official studio communication, including schedule changes, enrollment changes, cancellations, and policy questions.Students are responsible for checking messages regularly and responding in a timely manner when scheduling matters arise.

Photo, Audio, and Video Release

From time to time, the studio may use photos, short videos, audio excerpts, or brief performance clips of students for studio-related purposes, including the studio website, social media, educational posts, or promotional materials. Students will be identified by first name only unless additional permission is granted.If you do not want your image, audio, or video material used, please notify the studio in writing.

Agreement

By enrolling in lessons and submitting tuition payment to the Blair Boone-Migura Voice Studio, I certify that I am 18 years of age or older and that I have read, understand, and agree to the studio policies.
